Classic Caprese Salad
Sep 17th 2025
Simple, fresh, and bursting with flavor—this Caprese is a go-to for weeknights, cookouts, and last-minute appetizers. Ripe tomatoes, creamy mozzarella, and fragrant basil get a lift from The Olive Leaf Extra Virgin Olive Oil and a glossy drizzle of balsamic.
Ingredients (4–6 servings)
Salad
- • 3 ripe tomatoes, sliced thick (heirlooms if you can find them)
- • 12 oz fresh mozzarella, sliced thick
- • Fresh basil leaves
Finishing & Seasoning
- 2–3 Tbsp The Olive Leaf Olive Oil (try Mild/Unflavored, Basil, Garlic, or Black Pepper)
- 1–2 Tbsp The Olive Leaf Balsamic (Traditional, Fig, or Neapolitan Herb)
- Kosher salt & freshly ground black pepper or Seasonello Bologna Aromatic Herbal Salt
Directions
- Layer. On a platter, alternate slices of tomato and mozzarella, tucking basil leaves between the layers.
- Drizzle. Spoon olive oil over the entire salad, then finish with a light drizzle of balsamic.
- Season & serve. Sprinkle with salt and pepper (or Seasonello). Serve immediately with crusty bread or alongside grilled chicken, steak, or fish.
Tips & Easy Swaps
- Keep it vibrant: Use White Balsamic if you want bright colors without darkening the cheese.
- Creamy twist: Swap mozzarella for burrata and serve in a shallow bowl.
- Make it party-friendly: Thread cherry tomatoes, mini mozz, and basil onto skewers; finish with oil and balsamic.
- Add-ons: Try prosciutto, grilled peaches, or a handful of arugula for peppery bite.
- Make-ahead: Slice tomatoes and mozzarella up to 4 hours ahead; store separately. Assemble and season just before serving to avoid watery slices.
Why EVOO + Balsamic Work
Extra virgin olive oil amplifies tomato sweetness and adds silky richness, while balsamic brings bright, tangy depth. Together they balance creamy mozzarella and fresh basil for that classic Caprese snap.
