Southern Indiana has always showcased great wine, but now it’s official! The Indiana Uplands grape growing region has received the American Viticultural Area (AVA) designation. This important designation means the region is nationally recognized for its unique blend of geography, soil, and climate, which gives its wines defining character.
Southern Indiana’s rolling hills and fractured limestone bedrock create perfect drainage for grape growing and the long hot summer days provide an excellent ripening environment. These ideal growing conditions are what earned the Uplands region its AVA designation and what makes the Upland grown grapes so delicious and their wines so unique.
